Mini digger access width: what to measure before hire
Measure the whole access route, spoil path and delivery space before asking for mini digger hire.
Quick answer
Measure the narrowest real route: gate opening, path width, turns, steps, overhead clearance and where the machine will be unloaded. A digger that fits the gate can still fail if it cannot turn, unload or move spoil safely.
Checks before hire
- Measure gate, side path, turns and step/kerb changes
- Photograph the delivery and offload point
- Plan spoil route before choosing machine size
- Check services before digging, even in gardens
What to tell the hire desk
Describe the job, material, scale, access and what would make you stop. That gives the supplier a better route to the right machine, consumables and PPE than asking for a tool name alone.
Stop condition: Stop if services are unknown, the route crosses public or shared access, or excavation depth creates collapse risk.
