Guide
Dehumidifier or heater for drying walls?
When drying needs moisture removal, airflow, gentle heat, source fixing and daily checks rather than just hot air.
Quick answer
Heat alone does not remove moisture. A dehumidifier removes water from the air, air movers help wet surfaces release moisture, and gentle warmth can help if the source is fixed and the room is safe.
Typical example
A leak-fixed room with wet plaster may need dehumidification and airflow. An active leak or condensation pattern needs the cause fixed first or the damp returns.
Checks before hire
- Confirm leak/source is fixed.
- Remove standing water first.
- Track humidity and empty/drain the machine.
- Use airflow across wet surfaces, not just into the middle of the room.
When to stop
- Stop and get specialist advice for contaminated water, electrics, soaked cavities, insulation or moisture that keeps returning.
