Acrow props for wall support: warning signs before hire
Know when Acrow prop hire needs competent structural advice before any wall or opening work.
Quick answer
Acrow props are not a magic safety fix. If the wall, floor bearing, spacing or load path is unknown, the right next step is specification, not guessing a number of props.
Checks before hire
- confirm whether the load is structural
- get prop spacing and load path specified
- check floor bearing and spreader boards
- keep people out of unsupported work areas
What to tell the hire desk
Describe the job, material or setting, scale, access and the thing that would make you stop. That gives the supplier a better route to the right machine, consumables and PPE than asking for a tool name alone.
Stop condition: Stop if load-bearing wall without engineer/spec; active cracking or movement; unknown floor bearing capacity; removing structure before support is installed.
